- Spending the day with an elementary school teacher and realizing how hard and tiring her job is and how much patience and dedication it takes
- Taking someone to the emergency room at night and sitting in the waiting room forever and everything else involved
- Figuring out what to get the person you like for Christmas and being nervous about giving it to them
- Leaving college and going back home for the summer
I think #2 sounds like a very interesting idea. So many thoughts run through your head in that situation and you could ask a lot of good questions about life in general. It sounds like it could go in a lot of directions and it would be a really cool read.
ReplyDeleteAs a college student, I am curious about the 4th one. I have no idea how the dynamics of my family will have changed when I go home for the summer and am interested in your take on what that feels like. I know going home for breaks has felt weird, but at the same time, it still feels like home. I think this is a really interesting idea, and really pertinent to your audience. Great job with the other ideas too. Like Connor said, I like the emergency room idea too. Can't wait to read these stories!
ReplyDeleteHi Emily, All four are possible, but I like #2 and #3 best. I think either would lend themselves to a short story structure. dw
ReplyDeleteI like numbers two and four the best. However, Professor Wiliams might be right in saying that the fourth topic doesn't work as well in regards to a short story structure. However, I think the second topic would be good to write about because it provides a backdrop for good character development. I also think there's a lot of thought that goes on in emergency rooms, which would be interesting to chronicle.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the first idea. I am planning on teaching so it would be relly interesting to see just how tiring my future job will be :).
